Sun-Fill Purple Sunflower

This will be the ninth year showcasing sunflower varieties grown in my garden.  Today we begin the Sunflower Series of 2019.

The featured variety today has got to be one of the most unique type of sunflower that I have grown (or maybe the weirdest variety).  When the flower head is just about to open, it resembles a "succulent" plant (see picture above).  Before the blossom opens you will notice a beautiful deep purple hue appear around the edges (see picture above).  Then, the brightest yellow petals will appear but the flower will never fully open like other sunflower varieties.  This flower is really stunning since purple and yellow are contrast colors.
