TRIMMING: Don't Allow Your Mulberry Bush to Become a Menacing Tree
Mulberries are so delicious and they are really quite healthy! Mulberries are high in vitamin C, they contain resveratrol (which is supposed to protect against stroke), they are high in anthocyanins (which protect against cancer) and they also contain Zea-xanthin (which helps against macular degeneration ) (again - I am NOT a doctor - this information comes from my online research - click on my "disclaimer" at the end of this post).
Before I start my lecture on "trimming" I wanted to again share with you a couple of my Mulberry recipes (click on the title to view the recipe):
Strawberry, Mulberry & Lime Scones
Mulberry & Pecan Muffins with Crumb Topping
Trimming & Pruning
What happens if you don't prune your Mulberry bush you might ask?:
1. It will become so large that the only way to harvest the berries will be from your roof (NOT RECOMMENDED)
2. If planted near your house then large branches will be interfering with your roof & siding (therefore costing extra money because you will have to hire a tree trimming company keep your house clear of any tree damage)
3. The tree will become so dense that any grass underneath will die (the only good thing is that it will be a good clothes line anchor).
4. You will have small mulberry bushes coming up all over your yard and in the most difficult places like the edge of your sidewalk or driveway (if that happens it will be impossible to pull)
A few years ago I shared with you the Importance of Trimming (click HERE to view)
I have learned the hard way so trust me when I say: "Don't let mulberries become a pest - trim your mulberry shrub before it becomes a tree."
