Last week I shared with you pictures of my bumper Chestnut mushroom crop. This was my first time trying this variety of mushroom and I found three delicious ways to use them. (click HERE to view the Chestnut Mushroom post).
Adding to Pasta Sauce
I began by chopping half of an onion. Then, in a little olive oil (in a medium size frying pan) I sauteed the chopped onion with 2 cups of the Chestnut mushrooms for about 4 minutes. Now, pour the sauteed mushrooms & onion into pasta sauce and warm. Pour over your favorite pasta & ENJOY!
In a "Scramblette"
A "scramblette" is a scrambled omelette (click HERE to view how to make a Scramblette). In this simple scramblette I added 2 cups of Chestnut mushrooms and half of a chopped, sauteed onion. Final touch is to sprinkle some Parmesan cheese on top & ENJOY!
Mushroom Gravy Over a "Yooper" Pasty
(Meat Pie)
Finally, my favorite is to make my mushroom gravy recipe (click HERE to view) using Chestnut mushrooms and pour over homemade "Yooper" (somebody from the Upper Penninsula Michigan) pasty (recipe which I have not shared on this blog yet).
The Chestnut mushroom keeps it's firm texture even when cooked for a while and has a delicate nutty flavor. ENJOY!
