TREES #16(a) - NOAH: Building the Ark
We are continuing in our Bible study on trees and today we are focusing on the most significant item built with trees (wood) - the Ark. This is really a study on Noah and will be split into three parts:
16(a) - NOAH: Building the Ark
16(b) - THE FLOOD
16(c) - POST FLOOD
In today's continuation of the trees series, we are studying THE BUILDING OF THE ARK.
This is Part#16(a) - NOAH: Building the Ark
Since this entire series is on trees, we need to talk about the kind of wood that was used to build the ark. In the Scripture passage below you will see that "gopherwood" was used. In "The Blue Letter Bible" the word "gopherwood" is the same as cypress. In part#7 of this series we studied "cypress" (click HERE to read "TREES#7 - Cypress, Pine, Cedar")
It's truly amazing to think about the massive feat it was to have built this fully functioning boat.
I have not had the pleasure of visiting "The Ark Museum" but hope to have the privilege someday. (click HERE to view their website).
Just as impressive as building the ark was making sure that there was enough food not only for the family but for all of the animals!!
Noah was a man of God and I believe was Divinely guided through every step of the ark building and stocking process.
Remember, just before the flood, the inhabitants of the earth were not all 100% man/woman - many were giants. Giants (or Nephilim) were half fallen angel and half human - we read that below:
"Now it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born to them, that the sons of God saw the daughters of men, that they were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves of all whom they chose. And the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he is indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.” There were giants on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown."
Genesis 6:1-4
Noah walked with God and was actually the only righteous man on the earth at that time:
"This is the genealogy of Noah. Noah was a just man, perfect in his generations. Noah walked with God. And Noah begot three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. So God looked upon the earth, and indeed it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth."
Genesis 6:9-12
The cypress tree was vital to the success and safety of Noah, his family and all of his animal passengers.
