TREES #11 - TRUNK/BARK/WOOD
We have moved onto studying the different parts of trees like: roots, branches, trunk and leaves.
In today's continuation of the trees series, we will be focusing on the Trunk/Bark/Wood.
This is Part#11 on "Trunk/Bark/Wood".
This is obviously the most important and practical part of the tree - the trunk, where we get wood with which to build.
This is just a small list of the vital items made with wood (both Old & New Testament):
- The Ark of the Covenant
- Tabernacle
- Altar for offerings
- Noah's ark
- Moses' staff
- The Cross on which Jesus was crucified

And then, Solomon built a house for the Lord. The house itself was stone but please read 1 Kings chapter 6 and you will see the amazing detail using wood. As an example:
"He lined the walls of the house on the inside with boards of cedar. From the floor of the house to the walls of the ceiling, he covered them on the inside with wood, and he covered the floor of the house with boards of cypress."
1 Kings 6:15
And then of course, wood was also used as an energy source.
"Likewise we cast lots for the supply of wood among the priests, the Levites and the people so that they might bring it to the house of our God, according to our fathers’ households, at fixed times annually, to burn on the altar of the Lord our God, as it is written in the law."
Nehemiah 10:34
What about the bark? Cinnamon is also vital in worship. Holy anointing oil has cinnamon as one of the essential oil ingredients. See Exodus 30: 22-25 but specifically about cinnamon:
"half as much sweet-smelling cinnamons"
Horrifically, in the Old Testament, Israel twisted the use of God's beautiful trees for evil. They made images/statues out of wood and worshiped these idols!

It gets worse - they worshiped asherah poles and built altars to sacrifice their children to baal (I purposely used lower case because these evil demons will NEVER receive the respect of a capital letter from me). asherah was the mother of baal - both evil, satanic, false gods.
"They have built the high places of baal to burn their children in the fire as offerings to baal—something I did not command or mention, nor did it enter my mind."
Jeremiah 19:5
God has provided us with trees to use for building and glorifying ONLY Him! Let's make sure NEVER to use God's amazing trees for anything evil.
