Video#21 - Harvesting Potatoes From The Leaf Pile

Harvesting Potatoes from the Leaf Pile

This is the most exciting part of growing potatoes - the harvest!  It's like digging for buried treasure (and it literally is a treasure in my opinion).

Previous "Growing Potatoes" Posts:
Last year we talked about preparing the leaf pile in the Fall

And then we detailed how to prepare seed potatoes for planting

Most recently we focused on removing blossoms for larger potato growth

Today we focus on how to harvest the potatoes from the leaf pile and knowing when to harvest.

I hope that you enjoy this video!

SHOCK-O-LAT Sunflower Variety

SHOCK-O-LAT Sunflower Variety

September and early October is usually SUNFLOWER Season here in God's Growing Garden but this year started out with a 3 week drought (not a single drop of rain for 3 weeks).  So, everything has seemed late and especially my sunflowers.  Just a few days ago I finished taking my final sunflower picture of 2023.  Every year, during the month of September (and sometimes going into October), I feature the sunflower varieties that I grew during the summer.  I grew 4 different sunflower varieties this year featured in the Sunflower Series of 2023.  Today I am featuring: SHOCK-O-LAT variety.  I'm not sure if they chose that name because they thought it looked like "chocolate" (I do NOT believe that this variety resembles anything chocolatey.  However, a few years ago I grew the"Chocolate" variety, which does resemble chocolate - click HERE to view).  OR, it could be that this variety is so shockingly beautiful that it SHOCKS A LOT of people.  I'm not sure which is true but what I do know is true is that this is a beautiful sunflower.

Before showing the featured pictures, I wanted to remind you why sunflowers are my favorite flower.  Sunflowers always turn towards the sun - you can literally see them gently turning throughout the day to follow the sun.  To be very clear - I am NOT a "sun" worshiper.  However, I am a "Son" worshiper:  Jesus Christ The Son of God and I strive every day to grow and turn towards Him in every aspect of my life.

ENJOY the following pictures!

All photos were taken by me (Angie Ouellette-Tower) and the sunflowers were all grown in my garden.
