Strawberry Stages - From Planting to Eating
We have been growing strawberries for about 3 years now and we have loved every minute! I thought it would be fun to share the different stages that strawberries go through: from planting to eating.
I have split the strawberry life into 7 stages:
- Planting & Transplanting
- Blossoming
- Formation
- Ripening & Protection
- Harvest
- Cooking/Baking & Eating
(Click on any link listed below the topics)
PLANTING & TRANSPLANTING
The initial planting looks very sparse and you will not get many berries the first year (I literally only got a taste that first year when I planted the strawberries). On the third year you will begin splitting and transplanting the strawberry plants.

BLOSSOMING
Strawberry blossoms are such cute little flowers. If you look at the very middle you can see where the strawberry will start to form (the bottom of the strawberry will be formed from the middle of the flower.

FORMATION
Below you will find various stages of formation. Starting from barely formed in the first picture to almost ready to start ripening in the last picture.

RIPENING & PROTECTION
You will notice that in the first picture the strawberry is just barely starting to get some reddish color. Almost perfect in the second picture. And finally, I had to net the berry patch because the birds and raccoons love strawberries.

HARVEST
I had to harvest the strawberries just a little under-ripe (see first picture below) because there was a chipmunk who made an entrance hole just outside the strawberry fence and an exit hole inside the strawberry fence. He was living on little strawberry bites for the entire berry season (see second picture below).
