Recipe for the Christian Life - KNOWLEDGE

Recipe for the Christian Life - KNOWLEDGE

Today is the third post in the series on growing in our Christian Walk.  Developing a Christian life is kind of like baking a recipe - good ingredients creates a perfect treat.  Adding good characteristics to our faith produces good Christians.

If you recall, a few weeks ago we started with an empty mixing bowl - our FAITHLast week we added GOODNESS to our faith.
Today we are going to add in KNOWLEDGE.

Even though "knowledge" is a word that we all recognize, it's still good to look up the meaning in the dictionary:

knowledge - facts, information, and skills acquired by a person through experience or education; the theoretical or practical understanding of a subject.

There are two types of knowledge:
1.  The only true knowledge that comes from God.
2.  False knowledge that comes from the world and is a lie.

I just love the description in the verse above - "God made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God's glory displayed in the face of Christ."  When we became a Christian, we were filled with the Holy Spirit and it's as if a light was turned on - only then were we able to see the truth.  Before becoming a Christian, it's as if we had been trying to read in the dark.  And now, this light shines through us because the Holy Spirit is in our heart!
Read the verses below and you will see that we must continue to grow in this knowledge for our entire life.  This Truth transforms our life and is shown through our actions (good works).  We grow by studying (and memorizing) Scripture, through prayer, through fellowship and action.

"We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God"

(Colossians 1:9-10)

This knowledge is for EVERYONE.  In the verse below we learn that God wants everyone to come to the Truth and be saved.

"......God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

(1 Timothy 2:3&4)

Once we have this knowledge, our life MUST change - we can NOT keep on sinning and living like we used to when we were lost (see verse below).

"If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left"

(Hebrews 10:26)

Perhaps, that point is made clearer in the verse below - if we do not retain this knowledge then we will become "depraved" and do what we ought not to do (depraved means morally corrupt; wicked)

Let's strive to grow in the only
True knowledge of Jesus Christ for our entire life!

Over the next few weeks we will continue adding to the GOODNESS & KNOWLEDGE in our faith (from 2 Peter 1:3-11).
