TAW - Psalm 119: 169-176
The longest chapter in the Bible is Psalm 119. If you turn to Psalm 119 in your Bible, you will notice that there is a strange word every 8 verses. These "strange" words are the letters of the Hebrew alphabet. David wrote this chapter in an acrostic pattern and every letter of the alphabet is followed by 8 verses. It is a chapter full of praise and worship. I thought it would be fun to study Psalm 119 by summarizing each alphabetic section in an acrostic format.
I did not know anything about the Hebrew language, so I did a little research. The Hebrew language is written from the right to the left - opposite of the English language. There are 22 letters to the Hebrew alphabet. Today we complete this series with the twenty-second (final) letter
TAW.
I am also NOT a poet, so I had to research what an acrostic pattern meant.
An Acrostic Poem - is a poem where certain letters in each line spell out a word or phrase.
Example below.
TAW - Teach me and Allow your Word to sustain my life.
Today I am going to separate these eight verses into two sections: What David did and how God answered/responded.
Section#1: David cried, asked, praised, sang, chose, longed, and remembered.
May my cry come before you, Lord (verse 169)
May my supplication come before you, Lord (verse 170)
My lips overflow with praise (verses 171)
Sing of your word (verse 172)
I have chosen your precepts (verse 173)
Longing for salvation (verse 173)
I have not forgotten your commands (verse 176)
Section#2: God gives, delivers, teaches, helps, strengthens and will never leave.
Give me understanding (verse 169)
Deliver according to your promise (verse 170)
You teach me your decrees (verses 171)
Be ready to help me (verse 173)
Your laws sustain me (verse 175)
Seek your servant (verse 176)
Allow God to sustain your life!
