Psalm 119 - QOPH (Hebrew Alphabet)

QOPH - Psalm 119: 145-152

The longest chapter in the Bible is Psalm 119.  If you turn to Psalm 119 in your Bible, you will notice that there is a strange word every 8 verses.  These "strange" words are the letters of the Hebrew alphabet.  David wrote this chapter in an acrostic pattern and every letter of the alphabet is followed by 8 verses.  It is a chapter full of praise and worship.  I thought it would be fun to study Psalm 119 by summarizing each alphabetic section in an acrostic format.

I did not know anything about the Hebrew language, so I did a little research.  The Hebrew language is written from the right to the left - opposite of the English language.  There are 22 letters to the Hebrew alphabet.  Today we continue studying with the nineteenth letter
QOPH.
I am also NOT a poet, so I had to research what an acrostic pattern meant.
An Acrostic Poem - is a poem where certain letters in each line spell out a word or phrase.
Example below.

QOPH - When I QUESTION - you answer;  I OBEY you and PLACE my HOPE in you, O Lord

In the featured verses that we are focusing on today, we will see how David:
called, cried, stayed awake and rose early in order to pray to God.  Then God answered, saved, and renewed. And finally David's response to God was to obey, keep, hope, meditate and learn.

- I call with all my heart (verse 145)

- I call out to you (verse 146)

- Before dawn, I cry for help (verse 147)

- Through the watches of the night, my eyes stay open (verse 148)

- answer me, Lord (verse 145)

- save me (verse 146)

- renew my life (verse 149)

- I obey your decrees (verse 145)

- I keep your statues (verse 146)

- I have put my hope in your word (verse 147)

- I meditate on your promises (verse 148)

- I learned from your statutes (verse 152)

Let's not forget that "NO" and "WAIT" could be God's answer to our prayers.  We must accept those answers when they come.

  1. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!! The Lord has been talking to me about His Aleph-Beit. I was looking up this letter and found you and what you wrote. Studying Psalm 119 was on my list as I knew Psalm 119 was an acrostic of the alphabet. I didn't have time to break down each letter - but KNEW He had a pattern within the pattern. Thank you for your research that will help mine!! His Word and His Yods are amazing!!!! Love how everything is connected. Appreciate your blog.

    1. Thank you so much for visiting! And I am honored that our Heavenly Father spoke through me. Three years ago I was mainly using the NIV (New International Version) but I have since found out that there might be some "issues" with that translation. See my "version discrepancy" series to see what I am talking about: https://www.godsgrowinggarden.com/2022/01/bible-version-discrepancies-1-lords.html
Thanks again & have a blessed day!
