The Third of Advent - The Swift Actions of the Shepherds

This Advent season we have been focusing on the faith that was shown by Mary, Joseph and now the shepherds.
There are two important ways in which the shepherds showed their faith:
1.  They immediately went out and found Mary, Joseph and Baby Jesus.
In the Scripture passage above you will notice that after the heavenly hosts had left the shepherds -  they "hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby."  I believe that the reason why a "great company of the heavenly host" appeared to the shepherds instead of just one angel was because that heavenly sight would have been impossible to ignore or to reason away.  It even says in the featured verses that they were "terrified".  Their adrenaline was pumping and they immediately obeyed the task that the angels had given them (to find Mary, Joseph & Jesus). 
2.  They spread the word about what they had seen.
It's the same today - even before technology existed both farmers and ranchers were known for getting the word out.  Even in small communities, important news spreads like a modern day tweet.  The shepherds in Biblical times must have been similar to modern day farmers when it came to passing on important information.  It's also important to note that God shared the information of Jesus' birth with the commoners before informing the Magi.  I believe this is because of the way society was in ancient times.  If the upper class had been told before the shepherds then the elite might not have considered that the kind of information for a commoner.  God's plan is always the best. 

The commoners of that day knew about the birth of Jesus because of the swift actions of the shepherds!
