Christmas Eve - "All My Heart This Night Rejoices"

It is Christmas Eve and we are continuing our study in "not so familiar" Christmas Hymns.

In years past we have studied the meaning of different details of Advent:

NATIVITY - The Basics
The Lowly Life of the Shepherd
Wealthy Wise Men Traveling Far
Angels Hovering 'Round
It's Because God Loved Us So Much

This year I decided to feature some of the lesser Christmas hymns - by "lesser" I mean those that I am not familiar with but are listed in my church's old Hymnal.

Today we are featuring: "All My Heart This Night Rejoices"
(please listen to both YouTube videos below - the first version is true to the lyrics and the second has a different but beautiful twist to the original)

All My Heart This Night Rejoices
written by: Paul Gerhardt 1607-1676       composed by: Johann G. Ebeling 1620-1676
translated by: Catherine Winkworth 1829-1878

1.  All my heart this night rejoices, As I hear, Far and near, Sweetest angel voices, "Christ is born," the choirs are singing, Till the air, Everywhere, Now with joy is ringing.

2. Hark! a voice from yonder manger, Soft and sweet, Doth entreat, "Flee from woe and danger;  Brethren come;  from all that grieves you You are freed;  All you need I will surely give you."

3. Come, then let us hasten yonder;  Here let all, Great and small, Kneel in awe and wonder, Love Him who with love is yearning;  Hail the Star That from far Bright with hope is burning.
