Trusting Obedience = Courageous Strength
Strength & courage are two characteristics that many of us believe we lack. However, if we take a deeper look - I think that we'll surprise ourselves. Sometimes it helps to simplify things - let's look up the meaning of both words:
Strength - the ability to resist being moved or broken by a force, the quality that allows someone to deal with problems in a determined and effective way. (Merriam-Webster)
Courage - the ability to do something that you know is difficult or dangerous. (Merriam-Webster)
Both "strength" and "courage" are all about trust ....... trust in God. Knowing that "God will be with us wherever we go" is so comforting and should give us strength and courage to go on in difficult times.
Some of these situations might be God's way of saying "Hey, that's not the pathway that I want you to take." However, if you are sure that you are acting according to God's will then He has you in that situation for a reason! God will never give us anything that we can't handle and he will be there with us every step of the way. Trust Him!
We need to bring up fear and discouragement. Continuous fear can lead to discouragement but both will always interfere with obedience. The feature verse that we are studying today is very clear: ``do NOT be terrified; do NOT be discouraged.``
Courageously taking that first step and having the strength to continue on while trusting God will eliminate terror and discouragement.
Just like the old Hymn says: "Trust and Obey, for there's no other way to be Happy in Jesus, than to trust and obey!"

I usually think of being strong and courageous in the physical sense but here are some other examples of being strong &/or courageous:
- Don't you have to be strong in character to take care of an elderly parent?
- Doesn't it take courage to move to a new place for a new job?
- Sticking with your spouse through thick and thin takes both strength and courage.
- Even, sticking with a job that you hate takes both strength and courage: to get up the next day, make it to the office on time and perform your job the best way that you can.
