5 Must-Grow Veggies for Home Gardeners
Deciding what you are going to plant in your garden can be an overwhelming task especially if you have limited garden space. Over the next few weeks I will be sharing with you the top 5 veggies that I think are the most important for the Home Gardener to be growing in their garden (I will also be including recipes).
#2 - TOMATOES
I know I know - a tomato is a fruit & NOT a vegetable - However, I'm going to include tomatoes in this series since we mainly create savory dishes with tomatoes as opposed to sweet dishes and since most of us refer to tomatoes as a vegetable anyway.
Tomatoes are also so important to grow in your garden for many reasons but the most important reason for me is preserving or canning tomatoes. There is a never ending list of winter meals that can be made with homemade tomato sauce! Of course, fresh tomatoes are always the tastiest and the healthiest but home canned tomatoes/sauce is a very close second both in taste and nutrition.
There are many tomato varieties to grow in your garden but I recommend Roma tomatoes for canning sauce. Here are some fun tomato varities:
