HEARTnuts- the Heart Shaped Nut with a Hearty Taste
They exist! There is no digital manipulation to these pictures - there really is such a thing as a heart shaped nut!!
The shell and the nut itself are heart shaped. My parents discovered these fun nuts in the county where they live where there is a Heartnut tree farm.
These nuts originate in Japan and are related to the Japanese Walnut which is an oval nut. I don't understand how an oval nut can become heart shaped but here are the pictures to prove it.
The Heartnut has a delicious flavor also - to me it is a flavor combination of hickory nuts & English walnuts. Plan on seeing some recipes using these nuts in the future here on God's Growing Garden.
The picture above shows both the outside & inside of the Heartnut.
There has to be something creative that I can make with these shells.........
