Smoothie Saturday#14 - Pea Protein

Smoothies & Pea Protein

For all of the Smoothie recipes that I've shared with you on this blog so far I've used Whey Protein.  Today we will talk about Pea Protein as a vegetarian substitute for Vegans.

Some people have mucus issues when it comes to dairy so vegetables that are high in protein make a good substitute for Whey Protein.  On top of being high in protein, Peas are also full of vitamins and nutrients like vitamin C, copper, vitamin A and magnesium to name a few.
CAUTION:  If you suffer from gout then stay away from Pea Protein - it is high in purines which increases uric acid production! (again - I'm not a doctor and this is NOT medical advice - please see my "disclaimer" at the bottom of this post).

I just love peas - fresh or frozen.  So, when I heard that there was such a thing as Pea Protein I thought that the "Pea" flavor was really going to add to a Smoothie & make it even more tasty.  Wow - was I ever wrong!  Pea Protein is icky in flavor and texture.  I've never eaten saw dust before but I believe that Pea Protein is not that far off.
