Preparing Rose Hips for Preserving

A few months ago we learned about Rose Hips and how healthy they are for us (click HERE to view post)

Today I will show you how to prepare Rose Hips for preserving.  It doesn't matter if you are drying rose hips for tea, canning rose hip jam or making a delicious rose hip dessert - the preparation is the same.

Step 1:  Wash the rose hips
Step 2:  Remove the top and bottom
Step 3:  Scoop out the seeds (I used the end of a small spoon - it goes quickly once you get the hang of it)
They are ready to be preserved!!

  2. I thought rose hips was the petals from roses, you mean this is an actual plant? It looks like a tomato, pinning to my health and wellness board.

    1. The rose hips are the fruit of any rose bush but the "Rugosa" rosebush is the variety that is best known for it's rose hip flavor and quantity. The hips are about the size around as a silver dollar or a quarter (they vary between those sizes). And the hips taste nothing like rosewater which is made from the petals - rose hips are fruity - tart & delicious!! Thank you so much for pinning & for stopping by!

  3. This is great info. I'm going to have to walk out to the wild roses and see if there are rose hips, now that I know what to do with them. I'm pinning this post so I can refer to it again. Thank you for linking up to the HomeAcre Hop; I hope you'll join us again this Thursday and check out our Autumn Giveaway.
