Before Trimming
After Trimming
My in-laws had planted these trees in the late 60's or early 70's believing that what they were planting was a hedge. Well, they grew and grew and became mammoth trees. It wasn't until 8 years ago when we discovered that this actually was a hedge - all that was missing was the "trimming"!!!!
This is proof - Trimming is Important.
When they are not trimmed - The hedge below grows into these giant trees seen above. (Seriously - I wouldn't have believed it either if I hadn't witnessed it myself).
My husband's grandparents have something like that too. They used to have cedar hedges (although I do know cedar bushes do turn into trees) in the backyard but now they have giant cedar trees which is really bad if a windstorm rips through since cedar trees are the first to come down!

Ha! Who would have thought such a thing! But it is so sad that the power company cut them down. Now I'm wondering about some small trees we transplanted from the front to the back yard -- maybe they are hedges too!
ReplyDeleteAw, but I would feel so bad keeping such giants confined to a hedge size...! :(
